We take a look at how some of our young players got on in our weekly loan watch.
Matty Jacob at Gateshead FC & Jake Leake at Boston United:
This weekend’s round of fixtures in the National League North saw Matty Jacob and Jake Leake come up against each other as Gateshead beat Boston United 3-1 at the Gateshead International Stadium. Jacob played the full 90 minutes for the Heed, while Leake was introduced with 18 minutes of normal time left to play for the Pilgrims.
Billy Chadwick & Ahmed Salam at Linfield:
It’s been a very good week for Billy Chadwick, Ahmed Salam and Linfield. The NIFL Premiership outfit progressed to the quarter-finals of the County Antrim Shield in midweek with a 1-0 victory against Ards, with Salam playing the full 90 minutes and Chadwick coming on with just under half an hour of normal time left to play. Linfield then continued their unbeaten run in the league on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Carrick. Both Chadwick and Allam were introduced as second-half substitutes.
Harvey Cartwright at Gainsborough Trinity:
Harvey Cartwright played another 90 minutes between the sticks for Gainsborough Trinity as they were held to a draw at home by Ashton United in the Northern Premier League.
Tom Macauley at Hall Road Rangers:
Fellow goalkeeper Tom Macauley also got another 90 minutes under his belt at Hall Road Rangers, but was unable to prevent them from falling to a 3-0 defeat against league leaders Brigg Town.
Harry Wood at Scunthorpe United:
It was a difficult weekend for Scunthorpe United as they fell to a 6-1 defeat against Harrogate Town, with Harry Wood playing the full 90 minutes. The midfielder also featured for the Iron in the EFL Trophy in midweek, picking up an assist in the process.
Callum Jones at Morecambe:
Callum Jones wasn’t in action this weekend due to Morecambe’s game against Cambridge United being postponed due to international call-ups. However, he did feature against Hartlepool in the EFL Trophy in midweek and managed to get himself on the scoresheet.
James Scott at Hibernian:
Away from Hibernian on international duty, James Scott was an unused substitute for Scotland Under-21s as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Denmark Under-21s.
Festus Arthur at Barrow:
Festus Arthur was an unused substitute for Barrow on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Leyton Orient. However, he did get a full 90 minutes under his belt in midweek against Fleetwood Town in the EFL Trophy.
Andy Smith at Salford City:
Similarly to Arthur, Andy Smith was an unused substitute for Salford City against Walsall on Saturday. However, he did feature for the entire 90 minutes midweek against Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Trophy.
