Under-18 Assistant Manager Billy Clarke spoke of how important it was to get a positive result after a 2-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra.
A first-half brace from Billy Leach helped secure the Under-18s all three points in the Professional Development League.
On the Victory…
“Ultimately, it was a good win for us after coming off the back of two difficult results. Crewe gave us a really good test and they played some really good football. We could have possibly played better, but overall, it was an important result for us.
“We felt we could have been more aggressive off the ball and try and win it back and press a bit higher. Then, when we have possession, be more composed and create opportunities. What we did do well was grind out the result towards the end. Crewe had a lot of possession and we managed to dig in towards the end and it was good to see the spirit that the boys had together to dig in and get the result.”
“We played Billy (Leach) in a wider role and for him to get two goals is great. With the pace he has running in behind, he is always going to be threat. When he does it well, which he did, he played well and possibly could have scored a couple more, but for a few good saves from Crewe’s goalkeeper.
“Jaedyn (Chibanga) played really well last time out and he got his chance again due to how his performance was. Sam (Opoku) has done really well for the Under-16s in recent weeks and it was good to get them two involved as well as Ralph (Mkomba), who I thought worked extremely hard when he came on and gave the defenders a tough afternoon.”
Coventry City Preview…
“Coventry will be another tough test. It will be a difficult game for us, like every game at this level, so we’ll be looking to work on various things on the training ground Monday and hopefully we will see the boys transfer it into the game.”
