McLoughlin’s Coventry Verdict

1 November 2021

Defender Sean McLoughlin believes the Tigers have enough quality to turn their form around after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Coventry City at the MKM Stadium.

Matt Godden’s header after just nine minutes was enough to secure the visitors all three points.

“The early goal we conceded put us on the back foot from the start,” McLoughlin said.

“We came out in the second half and showed a bit more character and bravery.

“When you’re a goal down, you’re always fighting an uphill battle. We probably didn’t have enough quality at the top end of the pitch from everyone.

“We have another game coming up on Wednesday (against West Bromwich Albion), so we’ve got no time to sulk. We have to get back on it.”

Since beating Middlesbrough before the last international break, the Tigers have fallen to four consecutive defeats in the Championship, and McLoughlin says the team have to stick together as they look to turn their form around.

“We’re not hiding from it,” McLoughlin added.

“The form hasn’t been good enough. We believe in ourselves and the manager believes in us. We know we have the quality.

“We understand the frustration from everybody - we feel it ourselves. We’re all trying to drive in the same direction. Our goal is to make sure we’re putting in performances and getting results that please the fans.

“They pay their money to come out and watch us each week all around the country. We need to start rewarding them.”
