Hull City U23s produced a fantastic performance to defeat top-of-the-table Coventry City U23s 6-0 at the MKM Stadium.
Four goals from Will Jarvis and first-half strikes from Randell Williams and Tyler Smith earned the Tigers a resounding victory.
Richard Naylor and Andy Dawson named a fairly experienced side to face the Sky Blues, as George Moncur, Tyler Smith, Matt Smith, Williams and Andy Cannon all came in to the starting XI.
Williams opened the scoring on 15 minutes as his powerful effort beat Cian Tyler at his near post.
Two minutes later and the Tigers doubled their lead as Tyler Smith chipped the onrushing Tyler with a composed finish.
Cannon was next to take aim, but his shot went wide, before Harvey Cartwright was called into action to deny Ricardo Dinanga. Blaine Rowe then volleyed over for Coventry before Cartwright denied Dinanga again moments later.
At the other end, Williams curled his shot narrowly wide before the Tigers scored a third. Good passing play between Williams, Moncur and Cannon created space for Jarvis to place an effort into the bottom corner.
Dinanga almost pulled a goal back for Coventry before half-time, but his effort hit the crossbar.
Early in the second half, Coventry created chances through Josh Pask and Ryan Howley, as Pask headed over while Cartwright denied Howley at the second attempt.
Jarvis then secured his brace in the 54th minute. Good passing play released Jarvis, who in turn rifled a low shot into the bottom corner to score the Tigers’ fourth.
The opportunities kept falling to the Tigers as Jarvis forced a good save from Tyler, while Harry Lovick struck his long-range effort narrowly wide from the resulting corner.
Howley then saw his shot deflect behind off Jevon Mills, before Jarvis secured his hat-trick and the Tigers’ fifth with a superb finish into the top corner.
McCauley Snelgrove was next to take aim, but his shot was well saved by Tyler, before the Coventry goalkeeper denied Jarvis a fourth moments later.
However, the City forward wasn’t going to be denied his fourth in stoppage time as he rounded the onrushing Tyler before smashing his effort into the empty net to complete a clinical performance from the young Tigers.
