Ingram Happy To Be Out Of The Headlines

7 May 2021

He has been a calm and controlled presence behind Hull City’s back four this season and Matt Ingram says it has been nice to pass relatively under the radar over the last few months.

That’s not to say the goalkeeper hasn’t been a key figure in the Tigers’ promotion and title-winning campaign with his presence helping the side to record 20 clean sheets in their 45 games so far, but Ingram is happy to stay out of the limelight.

“It’s been nice to go almost unnoticed this season,” said the 27-year-old.

“When goalkeepers get noticed, it’s often because they’re making mistakes. I can’t remember too many mistakes this season so I’ve been pleased with how I’ve played but, like I’ve said before, it’s all about the consistency of the team as a whole.

“It’s been one of my best seasons and the only thing I can compare it to really is when I was at Wycombe and we stayed up on the last day of the season. That was very early in my career, though, so this season definitely trumps that.”

Along with his team-mates, Ingram can look forward to playing in the Sky Bet Championship next season but, for now, he is hoping to finish the season on another high note when the Tigers travel to Charlton Athletic on Sunday for the final game of the 2020/21 campaign.

“We’re all looking forward to getting back into the Championship and all of the challenges that will bring,” continued Ingram.

“But, for now, we’ll enjoy what we’ve achieved and we still have another game to play so we need to prepare right for Charlton on Sunday."
