Whyte Looking Forward To Peterborough Trip

8 March 2021

Gavin Whyte says he and his Hull City team-mates are looking forward to Tuesday night’s visit to Peterborough United as Sky Bet League One’s joint-leaders go head-to-head.

The two sides are currently locked together on 62 points with the Tigers nudging their way ahead courtesy of a superior goal difference, and Whyte is excited about the test that faces them at the Weston Homes Stadium.

“It’s a massive game but every game is at this stage,” said Whyte.

“We’re all looking forward to it. We know it will be a tough one but we’ll have our heads on for it. We know it’s a tight division but we’re all up for the challenge in front of us. Every game is tough and you need to be on your game to get the results you want.

“We’re taking each game as it comes. It’s tough no matter who you play in this league. We don’t look any further ahead than the next game.”

Whyte, of course, was the Tigers’ match-winner at the weekend as his brace earned his side a 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers at the KCOM Stadium and the Northern Ireland international was pleased with the afternoon’s work.

“It was a good win and a really controlled win, and it was nice to pop up with a couple of goals to help the team,” Whyte added.

“I think we always felt in control of the game and it was the same against Rochdale last Tuesday as well. We stuck to the game plan well and we’re just looking forward to the next game now because they’re coming thick and fast at the start of this month.

“I’d been quieter than usual in the previous couple of games that I’d played, and the injury before that came at a bad time because I felt that I was flying when I first came here. It was about getting back up to speed again really. I know what I’m capable of and I’m ready to go now. The gaffer has put a lot of confidence in me and helped me, and I’m just trying my best for the team."
