Hull City Under-23s defender Andy Smith expressed his delight with the Tigers' performance after the 3-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra.
Goals from Sean McLoughlin, Dan Crowley and Josh Hinds secured all three points for the Tigers in the Professional Development League.
“It’s definitely a good victory; three goals and a clean sheet. I can’t really ask for more,” said Smith.
“In the first half, we were just a bit off with our chances as a few went over the bar and we weren't really clinical enough. I think on another day we could have got a few more.
“We were controlling the possession in the second half and I think in the first, we were a bit untidy with it and the tempo maybe wasn’t there. Second half, when we had the ball, we looked a lot more controlled and calm in possession.”
The defender played the full 90 minutes alongside first-team player Sean McLoughlin and Smith was happy for him to score as well as learn off him throughout the game.
“It’s definitely important to get the full 90 minutes under my belt,” added Smith. “Recently, I’ve been up with the first team, either being on the bench or being in the squad and it’s been a long time since I’ve had these minutes. Being able to get a full 90 and to have a good performance and get a clean sheet is just brilliant for me.
“It was great for Sean to score and to play alongside players like him, who are experienced professionals, is only going to help me develop as a player. If I can take tips out of what they do and how they play and how they talk, it’s only going to improve how I am.”
