Greg Docherty knows that there will be plenty of twists and turns to come as the race for promotion from Sky Bet League One heads towards its conclusion.
With a couple of months of the season remaining, Hull City are one of a number of clubs with the automatic promotion slots in their sights, but Docherty insists that he and his team-mates will continue to focus on one game at a time and not the state of the league table.
“It chops and changes, there’s swings and roundabouts,” said Docherty.
“We’ve had a couple of wins, a couple of other teams have had a couple of defeats. It changes so fast, especially with the amount of games at the moment, and that is why you can’t get too high or too low. We know where we want to be come May and that is the only time you can start to look at the table.”
The Tigers host Bristol Rovers on Saturday as they look for a third successive win following victories against AFC Wimbledon and Rochdale, and Docherty says the aim is to build on the last two performances as they look to gather some momentum.
“We’re learning as a team with every game,” added Docherty.
“It’s crunch time and hopefully we can build on the last two wins. We’ve got another tough one coming at the weekend and Bristol Rovers might have that new manager ‘lift’. Teams enjoy coming to play here and it’s up to us to break them down, like we did against Rochdale on Tuesday.
“We’ve bounced back well since losing at home to Ipswich. We’re not going to get carried away by it, we just need to keep going and build some momentum."
