Hull City U18’s 6-5 Sheffield United U18’s: Match Report

3 March 2021

Hull City U18’s won an 11-goal thriller in the Professional Development League after defeating Sheffield United 6-5 at Bishop Burton College. A hat-trick from McCauley Snelgrove, brace from Will Jarvis and a goal from Louis Beckett secured the Tigers all three points in a very entertaining fixture.

John Anderson and Matt Hare made five changes to the starting XI that were defeated by Wigan Athletic 3-2 last time out. Alfie Taylor and Harry Lovick returned to the side, while Snelgrove, Beckett and Luke Rees came in for Harvey Carew, McCauley Power and Josh Hinds respectively.

The Tigers got off to the perfect start as they opened the scoring through Snelgrove on five minutes. The winger connected with Henry Curtis’ cross at the back post to score, despite Joshua Chapman getting a hand to it. The Sheffield United goalkeeper had to be alert moments later to save from Jevon Mills, before the Tigers scored their second.

Some neat passing play on the right wing saw Josh Ward square the ball for Snelgrove to rifle his first-timed shot past Chapman. In the other goal, Harry Fisk produced a stunning save to deny Oliver Arblaster from the penalty spot, before Joshua Smith converted for the visitors with a low shot moments later.

In the second half, the Tigers scored their third goal on the 57th minute as Beckett’s curling shot found the far corner. Five minutes later and the Tigers scored their fourth as Jarvis converted Rees’ cross from close-range.

The visitors responded with two quick-fire goals of their own as Tyrese Bailey-Green found the bottom corner with a low shot, before Smith scored his second goal of the game with a clinical finish.

However, the Tigers restored their two goal advantage just a minute later as Snelgrove secured his hat-trick with a composed finish past the onrushing Chapman. Jarvis then scored the Tigers’ sixth as he volleyed Carew’s cross into the bottom corner.

The Blades managed to set up an entertaining finale with another two-quick fire goals as Harvey Cullinan headed in from Arblaster’s free-kick delivery, before Bailey-Green converted from close-range, after Fisk initially saved to deny Arblaster in injury-time.
