Anderson on U18’s Sheffield United Win

3 March 2021

Hull City U18’s Manager John Anderson praised his team for their clinical finishing after edging an 11-goal thriller, defeating Sheffield United 6-5 at Bishop Burton College.

A hat-trick from McCauley Snelgrove, a brace from Will Jarvis and a goal from Louis Beckett sealed the Tigers all three points in the Professional Development League.

On the victory…

“It’s a great result, because to score six goals against a very good Sheffield United side is fantastic. I thought the goals we scored were good goals as well and I thought we played some good stuff throughout, so definitely on the ball there was positives.

“Obviously to concede five goals is not particularly nice though. We’ve spoken to the boys about how we need to be better off the ball and particularly when we do concede as well about being a little bit more resilient. We seem to be letting ourselves get a bit affected by conceding and letting teams back into games and it’s definitely something that we need to work on and be better at.”

McCann & Byrne Appearance…

“The fact that the manager and Cliff (Byrne) have taken the time to come and watch the boys is fantastic and it’s an opportunity for the team to go out and try and impress them. It can only be a good thing and hopefully they were happy with some of the goals they’ve seen. However, I’m not sure if they would be particularly happy with some of the goals we conceded! Overall, it’s always a real bonus and it’s really nice for them to come down and watch the boys.”

Coventry City Preview…

“They beat us 2-0 just before the Christmas break and deservedly so as they were the better team on the day. We know theyre a good footballing side and they like to play some good stuff and we know its going to be a tough, tough game, because they all are in the Professional Development League.”
