Anderson on Sheffield Wednesday U18s Defeat

29 March 2021

Hull City Under-18s Manager John Anderson felt it was a learning experience for his side after a 3-0 defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday.

An Alex Bonnington hat-trick condemned the Tigers to defeat in the Under-18 Professional Development League.

On the Defeat…

“We’re obviously disappointed with the result after two decent away wins. We conceded early, which we’ve had a habit of doing this season. We’ve spoken to the boys about trying to get a foothold in the game and that if you concede in the first five minutes, you’re giving yourself a mountain to climb. We had a good 15-minute spell in the first half in which we played some good stuff and at the end of that spell, we ended up conceding again. Second half, we had a number of chances which we never took and then we conceded again in the last minute and we can’t continue being a 4-3 or 6-5 team.

“It was great that we had Glen (Sani) starting again and that we had five first-year scholars starting as it’s a learning curve for them. In the end, it’s a defeat, but they now have to learn from it and improve and try and put it into practice.”

Rio Dyer Wales U18s…

“We played Cardiff City away last week and there was a scout there watching and after the game Rio got invited to join up with the Wales Under-18s squad. Everyone at the Academy is delighted for him and it’s a great opportunity for him.”

Barnsley Preview…

“This will be a fifth successive away game in a row for us. Barnsley are always in the top half of the table and whether you play them home or away, its a really tough test as theyre a very good side and we dont expect anything else except a hard game.”
