Williams: An Easy Decision

18 June 2021

Randell Williams says it was an easy decision to join Hull City and can’t wait for the new Championship season to begin.

The 24-year-old wide forward has agreed a two-year deal with the Tigers and becomes Grant McCann’s third summer recruit following the signings of George Moncur and Andy Cannon.

The former Exeter man very nearly moved to the KCOM Stadium last summer and is pleased to be going somewhere he is wanted.

“It’s fantastic to be at such a big club that are in the Championship,” said Williams.

“I really wanted to be a big part of something great. They did so well last year, winning League One, and hopefully we can go onto big things in the Championship.

“I know the gaffer, he tried to get me in last year and I know his plans and what he wants to do with the club moving forward. I’m happy to get it across the line and hopefully there are big things to come.

“It was quite an easy decision. It’s always good when a team wants you – that’s the most important thing for any player, wherever they go.

“If you're going to a club where you’re wanted, it’s always an easy decision for the player to make.

“I can’t wait for the Championship – I just want to get started straight away.”

Williams’ best season in terms of output came in 2019/20 when he provided 14 assists and scored five goals, earning him Exeter’s Player of the Season award.

And the London-born wideman is hoping to contribute regularly to the Tigers’ attacking play.

“I like to be direct, quite tricky, take on as many players as possible, get crosses into the box, use both feet and keep defenders guessing," he added.

“If you’re going to play in a forward role, you’ve got to produce numbers. I’d like to improve in the goalscoring aspect of things. I am quite creative and like to get a lot of assists.

“I have no doubt in this team, the way the gaffer sets up and the players around, I’ll have no problem trying to score goals.”
