Tom Nixon Signs for Hull City Academy

13 July 2021

Young right-back Tom Nixon has joined Hull City's Academy on a one-year deal.

The 18-year-old will link up with the Tigers’ Under-23s as he continues his development under the tutelage of Academy Manager Richard Naylor and Lead Professional Development Phase Coach Andy Dawson.

Trentham-born Nixon recently finished a two-year scholarship with hometown club Stoke City, where he captained their Under-18s.

He featured as a trialist on a number of occasions for Hull City’s Under-23s last season in the Professional Development League, and is available for tonight’s first pre-season friendly against North Ferriby.

Nixon said: “I’m pleased to have signed for Hull City and I’m really looking forward to getting started.

“All the lads have been really welcoming and Richard and Andy have been really supportive. They’ve all showed me the ropes and they’re a great group to be around.

“I was at Stoke for a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I’m glad to have a big change like this. This is what I needed and it’s something that is good for me and my career.

“I would describe myself as more of an attacking full-back that likes to get up and down the pitch, but I do like to defend. I love a tackle and I feel like I’m an aggressive, on the front foot kind of player.

“My targets are to play as many games as I can. I want to be training with the first team hopefully in the near future and possibly make my first-team debut.”
