Gavin Whyte feels he is ready to build on a solid debut for Hull City in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool.

The new recruit played a pivotal part in the Tigers’ solitary goal against the Seasiders as his precise ball into the box allowed Josh Magennis to set up Mallik Wilks, and the Northern Irish international is now looking to kick on in a black and amber shirt.

“I thought I did well,” said Whyte. “It was good to finally get out there again, get on the ball and try to make things happen. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I was at Oxford and then Cardiff were keen on taking me there and they bought me when Neil Warnock was the manager. I hit the ground running there and played lots of games under Neil and did well, but then a new manager came in and the team were doing well – I just couldn’t seem to get in.

“I kept working hard, but you can only sit on a bench for so long before you feel the need to be playing regularly again. When the move to Hull City came up it was something that I wanted to get done.

“I spoke to a few people before coming here and they were telling me that this is a very energetic team and that I’ll get plenty of the ball with a strong, energetic midfield behind me.

“I can see that we like to play a bit and we’re an attacking team, so it was really good to be out there and be a part of that. Hopefully I can get more games under my belt now.”
