George Honeyman says that Hull City need to stamp their authority on the game as they take on promotion rivals Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The midfielder missed the Tigers’ final two games of 2020 with a hamstring issue, but was pleased to be back in the starting XI against Charlton Athletic as Grant McCann’s side took all three points.
“It’s never nice watching the boys play without you and feeling helpless when you’re out injured,” said Honeyman. “You just want to get back out there and do your best for the lads. Fortunately with the break over Christmas it gave me an extra week to rest and get better. I’m very pleased to be back now. It was good to start with a win and hopefully we can go on another one of our runs again.
“Obviously the game got thrown-in a bit last-minute, but it’s just another game for me. It’s a good game for us and we want to keep it going after last weekend and it’s another promotion rival so it’s definitely a game where we want to stamp our authority on it.
“They’re a really experienced team. They’ve got a good spine and Charlie Wyke has been putting in goals for them left, right and centre so it’s not going to be easy to go up there and get a result but from what we showed last weekend and how we’re feeling, we’re looking to go there and give a good account of ourselves.
“We all want to be back in the Championship and we’ve got to be at our best every week to get back there.”
