Foulkes: Defeat Can Be A Learning Curve

14 January 2021

Hull City U23 goalkeeper Harrison Foulkes says the Birmingham City defeat can help the team in the long run.

Despite Josh Hinds scoring, the Tigers suffered a 3-1 defeat at Bishop Burton College in their latest U23 Professional Development League fixture.

“Birmingham were a good side and they played well,” said Foulkes.

“We had a young side, but that’s not an excuse. I think as a team and individuals we made mistakes where we shouldn’t have and we should have been better as a team.

However, I think it was a great experience for the scholars who featured to step up and play at the Under-23 level, as it raises their standards and hopefully they can take it into their Under-18 games as well.

“It shows how the Academy and the club like to progress players through and I think despite the defeat, its been a good experience for everyone, even the older lads to help develop a bit more of a leadership role to help the younger lads, but it definitely shows how well the club are doing producing players through the chances the Academy provide.

“We’ll take what we have learnt from this game into next week against Sheffield United. They might have a completely different approach to Birmingham, but as long as our attitudes are right, then I think we’ll be alright to bounce back from this defeat.”
