Academy Duo Pen New Deals

28 January 2021

Hull City are delighted to provide contract updates on two of its Academy players.

Defender Andy Smith has signed a new deal at Hull City until 2023, with a Club option of a further year.

The 19-year-old is the most recent from the impressive Hull City Academy production line to make his senior debut, producing a solid display in the 3-2 win over Fleetwood Town in the Papa John’s Trophy earlier this month.

Hull City are also delighted to announce that goalkeeper David Robson has penned a contract extension with the Tigers.

The 19-year-old, who has featured heavily for the Academy under-23s this season and also holds an international cap for Wales’ under-17s, has signed a new deal that will keep the goalkeeper at the club until 2022, with the Club holding the option of a further year.

Head Coach Grant McCann said: “We’re really pleased to get Andy and David tied down for longer and to continue their development.

“Andy has been up training with the first team now for a number of months and he’s come on leaps and bounds. You saw his performance against Fleetwood and how good he was against experienced players.

“David is an up and coming young goalkeeper who has represented Wales and we’re really pleased with him.

“We want to get all the young boys to commit and be part of the process. We’ve got a lot of players from the Under-23s training with us and they’re learning every single day off all the other players.

“It’s great to get the boys committed and be part of the long-term future of the football club.”

On Robson, Goalkeeping Coach Barry Richardson commented: “I’ve been delighted with how David has coped with training with the first team. We see real good potential in him and that’s why we’ve decided to offer him a contract extension.

“He’s got a very good attitude and his all-round general improvement since coming up from the Academy has been spot on. We look forward to seeing him develop further.”
