Hull City U18’s suffered a 3-2 defeat against Wigan Athletic in their latest Professional Development League fixture.

Despite the Tigers being 2-0 ahead, courtesy of goals from Harvey Carew and Will Jarvis, a late comeback from Wigan secured the hosts all three points.

John Anderson and Matt Hare made five changes to the starting eleven that drew 1-1 with Barnsley last time out. Two unnamed trialists started the fixture, while there was returns for McCauley Power, Carew and Josh Hinds respectively.

The hosts had the first opportunities of the game as Harry Fisk produced two good saves to deny Chris Sze and Levi Welsh, before Charlie Hughes volleyed over from close-range.

The Tigers opened the scoring on the 29th minute as Henry Curtis picked out Carew in the penalty area, and the striker took one touch before placing his finish into the bottom corner.

Jarvis almost doubled the Tigers’ lead moments later, but his drilled shot was cleared off the line by the recovering Hughes. At the other end, Curtis hit his own post with a sliced clearance, before Welsh volleyed over the rebound.

In the second half, the Tigers doubled their lead on the hour mark. Jarvis connected with Power’s pinpoint pass to score his fifth goal for the Under-18’s this season.

Fisk then produced another great save to deny Sze moments later, before Wigan scored their first on the 74th minute. Millen Brown cut inside from the left wing before curling his effort into the top corner.

A minute later and Wigan had their equaliser as Tom Costello was played through on goal and the substitute made no mistake as he converted his effort past the onrushing Fisk. Two minutes later and Wigan completed their comeback as Sean McGurk’s corner eluded everyone to find the far corner of the net.

The Tigers had opportunities to equalise late-on as Hinds forced a good save out of Owen Mooney, before Jarvis’ low cross was nearly converted by Wigan’s Jason Fulton in stoppage-time.
