Hull City U18’s secured their first point in 2021 after a 1-1 draw against Barnsley U18’s.
Will Jarvis’ first-half goal was cancelled out by Ben Hall as the teams shared the points in the U18 Professional Development League.
John Anderson and Matt Hare made five changes to the starting eleven that were defeated 2-0 last time out against Birmingham City. Jevon Mills returned into the defence while Harry Fisk replaced Thomas Macauley in between the sticks. Second-year scholars McCauley Snelgrove, Harry Lovick and Jarvis replaced Billy Leach, Louis Beckett and Rio Dyer respectively.
Barnsley thought they had opened the scoring within the opening minutes as Harrison Nejman finished from close-range, after Fisk initially saved from Lloyd Smith, but the Barnsley striker was ruled offside. Josh Ward then cleared Connor Hodgson’s effort off the line as the visitors pushed for the opener.
However, it was the Tigers who opened the scoring through a clinical counter-attack as Snelgrove played Jarvis through on goal and the striker made no mistake as he dispatched his finish into the bottom corner past the onrushing Kieran Flavell. The Tigers pushed for a second before the half-time break as Snelgrove and Mills both fired chances off-target.
In the second half, Mills produced a vital block to deny Bayley Howell, before Barnsley scored their equaliser on the hour mark. Hall latched onto a long ball before the defender fired his low shot into the bottom corner past the outstretched dive of Fisk.
Lloyd Smith then wasted a great opportunity for the visitors as his chipped finish went narrowly wide, before Barnsley saw a second goal disallowed for offside as Hall reacted quickest to finish from close-range, after Fisk initially denied Joe Ackroyd.
The visitors pushed for a winner late on in the game as Nejman saw his effort go over the bar, before Mills blocked Howell’s effort as the Tigers secured a well-deserved point at Bishop Burton College.
