Hull City 0-1 MK Dons: Match Report

13 February 2021

An 80th minute Scott Fraser penalty condemned Hull City to defeat at the KCOM Stadium against MK Dons.

In an action packed game, the Tigers found MK Dons’ goalkeeper Andrew Fisher in inspired form as they failed to convert their chances.

Grant McCann made one change to the starting eleven, following the midweek draw against Lincoln City. Mallik Wilks returned on the right wing for Josh Emmanuel respectively, while Reece Burke made his 100th appearance for the Tigers.

It was the visitors who had the first opportunities of the game as Matt Ingram saved from Zak Jules, before the fullback headed wide from Ethan Laird’s cross moments later.

At the other end, the Tigers should have taken the lead through Keane Lewis-Potter, as the striker was played through by Josh Magennis’ flicked header, but the striker couldn’t sort his feet out as the onrushing Fisher denied him.

It was end-to-end action as Ingram produced a stunning save to deny Will Grigg at the back post, before Wilks saw an ambitious effort from forty yards hit the side netting.

Both teams kept pushing for the opener as Wilks volleyed over from eight yards, before Matt O’Riley saw his deflected effort go wide. From the resulting MK Dons’ corner, Andrew Surman volleyed wide as the first-half remained goalless.

In the second half, Wilks tested Fisher from close-range, before Crowley’s rebound was blocked. Jacob Greaves was then on hand to head Jules’ dangerous cross-shot behind, before Docherty forced a fingertip save from Fisher, after the midfielder connected first-time with Callum Elder’s low cross.

The Tigers continued to push as Lewis-Potter and Honeyman both saw attempts blocked by Dean Lewington and Harry Darling.

With ten minutes left to play, the visitors received a penalty as O’Riley’s shot was adjudged to have hit a Tigers’ hand. Fraser stepped up and sent Ingram the wrong way to give MK Dons the lead.

The Tigers went close to an equaliser late-on as Greaves headed over at the back post from George Honeyman’s free-kick, before Magennis headed wide from Lewis-Potter’s cross in stoppage-time.
