Hull City U23’s suffered a 3-0 defeat against Birmingham City in their latest Professional Development League fixture.
An own goal and strikes from Kane Thompson-Sommers and Adan George secured the hosts all three points at the Trillion Trophy Training Centre.
Richard Naylor and Andy Dawson made five changes to the starting eleven that were defeated 2-0 against Wigan Athletic last time out. Ryan Hanson featured following his loan spell at National League side Dover Athletic, while Callum Jones and James Berry made their first starts since retuning from injury respectively.
The Tigers had the first opportunities of the game as Jones and Billy Chadwick both saw attempts blocked, before Hanson’s deflected drive was held by Elias Rouse. In the other goal, Harvey Cartwright produced a stunning save to deny Adan George one-on-one.
Birmingham opened the scoring on the eleventh minute as Thompson-Sommers’ low drive went through a crowd of bodies to find the bottom corner. The hosts pushed for a second before half-time as Cartwright saved well to deny Geraldo Bajrami.
In the second half, Birmingham scored their second five minutes from the restart as Josh Williams’ low cross was diverted into the net by the Tigers’ trialist. Tate Campbell then tested Cartwright with a fierce drive, before Birmingham scored their third through a clinical, close-ranged finish from George.
The Tigers tried to respond through Berry as his whipped free-kick curled narrowly wide past the right-hand post. At the other end, Cartwright denied Campbell with another good save, before Williams’ rebound was cleared off the line by the recovering Jake Leake.
Substitute Will Jarvis almost got one back for the Tigers in the closing stages of the game, but he couldn’t convert Berry’s inviting cross at the back post as Birmingham secured the points in the Professional Development League.
