McCann provides update on squad ahead of Blackpool

31 December 2021

Head Coach Grant McCann has revealed that six players have returned to training this week after testing positive for Covid-19 over Christmas.

The Tigers were unable to fulfil their fixtures against Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United over the festive period due to having an insufficient number of players available to choose from. On his return to pre-match press conference duties, McCann revealed that the situation has improved.

“We are better than what we have been,” said McCann.

“We’ve had six players return over the last couple of days. The problem is that when they return from Covid, there’s a three-day protocol that they’ve got to follow.

“Hopefully if they come through the session today, then we’ll be in a good place. It’s nice to have those players return.”

Although the Tigers now have enough players to fulfil tomorrow’s fixture against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, McCann says that a significant number of players still remain unavailable through injury or Covid.

“We’ve recalled Josh Hinds from his loan spell at Spalding,” added McCann.

“We’re a bit healthier. We’re still going to be missing about seven or eight players for the game due to Covid or injury. We’re in a much better place than we were seven or eight days ago.”

“Luckily for us, not many of our cases had symptoms, so hopefully there is no knock-on effect.

“We’re hoping that everyone is OK.”
