Grant McCann says that Matt and Tyler Smith could return to the squad for Hull City’s upcoming Championship outing against Reading, while Brandon Fleming is also back in training.
Having both featured for the Tigers in an Under-23s clash against Coventry City after the first team’s win against Birmingham City, neither Matt or Tyler Smith have been in action since due to hamstring injuries.
“We’ve had Matt Smith back on the grass and he could be available for the weekend,” McCann said.
“He felt a tightness in his hamstring against Coventry Under-23s. He felt his hamstring in that game, as did Tyler Smith.
“He (Tyler) has also been out training this week. They both felt a tightness in their hamstrings after that game. It was nothing serious - they only missed one game or so but they’re both available again for the weekend.
“It’s a bit more positive for us (on the injury front). Brandon Fleming has been out on the grass today as well - training with the group after nine weeks out. It’s great to see him back. Tom Huddlestone has had another good week of training.”
Although the Tigers are searching for their fifth successive win in the Championship, McCann says that would not stop him from tweaking his starting line-up depending on the opposition.
“The results have been good for us over the last four games but like I always say, we assess how we feel we’re going to hurt Reading. The team isn’t always necessarily going to be the same as the team that won the previous week.
“We do a lot of work in terms of areas of the pitch where we feel we can hurt them. We have to work diligently in terms of what we do and be consistent in terms of our approach.”
