Forward McCauley Snelgrove praised opponents Bridlington Town after the Under-23s suffered their first defeat of pre-season at the hands of the Seasiders.
Despite goals from Snelgrove and an unnamed trialist, the Tigers suffered a 4-2 defeat at the Hudgell Solicitors Stadium.
“Bridlington played really well and had some very tidy players,” said Snelgrove.
“Some were strong and fast, while others were quite tricky and I believe a few of them used to play at the Academy previously, so we knew they were going to be good and full credit goes to them.
“We had a mountain to climb as we conceded four in a short period of time and overall, we’ve got to be better as a group to get together and be collective at certain moments.
“Personally, it was good to score a goal. Any goal is a good goal and overall, I was happy to score and to add to my tally.”
Snelgrove has featured in all three of the Under-23s' pre-season fixtures and has also been involved in the first team fixtures away to Scunthorpe United and Sunderland.
“It’s been great to play against men,” added Snelgrove.
“Men’s football is so much stronger and quicker because you’ve got big men pressing you rather than fellow academy players. It’s a good task and there’s a variety of styles teams can play.
“Recently, I’ve been very grateful for the opportunity to play in the first team. It’s my hometown club and I just want to make an impression.
“I thought I did well at Scunthorpe United and I thought we did well at Sunderland despite the result. Every minute I play in the first-team I’m grateful for and I just need to push on now and get as many minutes as I can this season, starting with Wolves next week.”
