McCann: Be On The Front Foot

27 August 2021

Grant McCann wants his side to be positive and play on the front foot when AFC Bournemouth visit the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers will be searching for a first win since the opening day, while Scott Parker’s Cherries are unbeaten in the league, with two wins and two draws.

“Bournemouth have made a strong start,” said McCann.

“They came down from the Premier league a couple of seasons ago and have still got some top players in there, who have been in the Premier League with them.

“They’ve recruited again, with Morgan Rogers coming in from Man City and Gary Cahill coming in.

“The Championship is difficult. Every team is really strong in terms of what they can do.

“We’ll look forward to it. We want to be on the front foot, we want to be positive, we want to try to take the game to them.

“We want to turn around those two disappointing defeats we’ve had at home and try and get our first win at home.

“It’s the last game of the month and we want to finish on a high. There’s an international break coming up and we want to go into this break on a positive.”

Hull City have suffered three straight defeats since beating Preston in game one but McCann is confident results will turn – insisting there have been plenty of positive aspects to the performances.

“If I look at the first four games, we were excellent at Preston and were actually quite good against QPR and lost the game to two set-plays, which we need to get better at,” McCann commented.

“Derby game was just poor. Fulham – we were very competitive given the fact we went there with five or six players missing.

“It may look bad on paper but it hasn’t been that bad. We know if we continue to work on what we know we’re good at and continue to try to take the game to people, then we’ll be fine and I’m sure we’ll be competitive in this division.”
