Hull City Under-18s continued their perfect home record in the Professional Development League with a 3-1 victory over Colchester United.
A brace from Kyle Fanning and a composed finish from Glen Sani secured the three points for the Tigers, who played the fixture at the MKM Stadium in front of a great crowd.
John Anderson made three changes to the starting XI that were defeated against Bristol City last time out. Tom Macauley returned between the sticks, while Jaedyn Chibanga and Henry Curtis both started.
Both teams created few chances in the opening exchanges of the game, with Jaiden Crakes-Thomas seeing his shot blocked by Keegan Green, before Alfie Taylor saw his flicked header go wide. The Tigers opened the scoring in the 15th minute as Fanning rose highest to head in from a set-piece delivery.
Taylor then saw his free-kick blocked by Colchester, before the Tigers doubled their lead through Sani, with the striker sprinting to reach Fanning’s through ball before calmly dispatching his finish into the bottom corner.
The visitors reduced the deficit just before the interval as a low cross from the left wing saw Bradley Ihionvien have space to control the ball in the penalty area, before rifling his low shot into the bottom corner.
The Colchester striker almost equalised nine minutes into the second half but his lobbed effort bounced wide. The visitors continued to push for the equaliser as Macauley produced a stunning save from close range to deny Darnell Asare-Williams, before Ryan Lowe’s well-struck drive went narrowly wide.
After defending valiantly against Colchester, the Tigers received their reward with a third goal in injury time. Harry Wallis whipped a great free-kick delivery into the box to find Fanning at the back post, and the midfielder converted from close range with a first-time volleyed finish.
