Callum Elder is rated as “touch and go” for Hull City’s Championship season opener at Preston – but Mallik Wilks will be available.
Neither Elder (thigh), nor Wilks (hamstring), featured in the Tigers’ pre-season friendlies but Grant McCann has confirmed the latter is back fit, although four players will definitely be absent.
“We’re going to be missing Randell Williams, Tommy Mayer and Sean McLoughlin with Covid issues,” McCann said.
“Callum Elder is touch and go for the weekend. George Honeyman (ankle) – we know the situation there.
“Four of those five will definitely miss. Callum, we’ll wait and see.
“Mallik is fine and in a good place. It’s pleasing it happened in pre-season and he didn’t miss any (competitive) games.
“We played caution with Mallik and didn’t want to take any risks. We didn’t have to take any risks with the pre-season games but he did a lot of in-house 11 v 11 games before that.
“He’s had a good week and chomping at the bit for the weekend.”
