Grant McCann says his Hull City side must be prepared to face a Sunderland team that will be looking to produce a positive reaction when first hosts third at the KCOM Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Tigers are currently eleven points ahead of the Black Cats at the top of the Sky Bet League One table, with Lee Johnson’s men having lost each of their last three games. However, well aware of the quality that Sunderland have in their ranks, McCann knows that his players will need to be ready for the visitors to come out fighting.
“Sunderland will be coming here wanting to show a reaction and it’s going to be another very tough game,” said McCann.
“They aren’t up there in the table for no reason, they’re up there because they’re a very good team and they have some very good players. We’ll need to be at it to get another result.
“I think they’ll come here knowing that they’ll have to try and win the game which might open it up to be a good game of football because they do play good football and have good players at the top end of the pitch. We’ll look forward to the game.”
McCann’s men, of course, have their own business to take care of as they edge ever closer to automatic promotion but the Head Coach insists there will be no change in their approach to this midweek fixture.
“It’s just the next game for us really,” McCann continued.
“Until it’s mathematically confirmed for us to be where we want to be we will continue to approach games in the way we have all season. We’ll prepare right, we’ve done everything to make sure that the boys have recovered well from Saturday and we’ll look forward to another home game.
“We still have another four games to go and a lot of points to play for. We can’t take our foot off the pedal and we have to make sure that we all stay calm and focused whilst looking forward to the next game."
