Hull City U18s 1-4 Charlton Athletic U18s: Match Report

11 April 2021

Hull City U18s suffered a 4-1 defeat against Charlton Athletic U18s in their latest Professional Development League fixture. Despite an unnamed trialist scoring, a young Tigers team were condemned to defeat at Bishop Burton College.

John Anderson and Matt Hare made five changes to the starting XI that drew 1-1 with Barnsley last time out. Two unnamed trialists featured while there were welcome returns for Harry Wallis, Sam Deacon and Glen Sani.

The Tigers had the first opportunities of the game with Sani firing over after connecting with Henry Curtis’ cross, before Oliver Green saw his low effort parried by James Beadle. In the other goal, Harry Fisk produced a stunning save to keep the game goalless, while Jevon Mills saw his deflected header go over the bar.

Charlton pushed for an opener as Tyreece Campbell and Mason Burston both fired chances off target, before they opened the scoring in the 26th minute. After Alfie Taylor blocked the initial effort, Jason Adisun converted from close range with a clinical finish. The Tigers almost equalised immediately as Mills rose highest to connect with Wallis’ free-kick, but his header was acrobatically saved by Beadle.

In the second half, Charlton almost doubled their lead within the opening seconds as Fisk saved from Richard Chin, before the back-heeled rebound by Burston was cleared off the line by Mills.

The Tigers then equalised through a trialist as he connected with Green’s pass to finish from close range. Fisk then produced another great save to deny Kardy Anderson one-on-one before Taylor cleared off the line from the resulting corner. However, Charlton retook the lead from the second successive corner as Jeremy Santos’ delivery directly found its way into the back of the net at the back post.

The visitors quickly scored a third as Chin’s effort found the net, with the aid of the inside of the post, before Fisk pushed over Anderson’s drive late on. Charlton scored a fourth in injury time as substitute Mack Reilly converted his low shot into the bottom corner.
