Hare on U18s Swansea Draw

27 April 2021

Hull City U18s Assistant Manager Matt Hare praised his side’s character to come from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Swansea City U18s.

Goals from Billy Leach and Glen Sani secured the Tigers a point in the Professional Development League.

On the Draw…

“We were disappointed to go 2-0 down initially, because I thought we were dominating the game in the first half. We were also really disappointed to concede off two set-pieces. The pleasing thing is the character that all the young lads showed to get themselves back into the game. They all saw that they needed that resilience to get points on the board and it was a really important day and a learning curve for our young lads today.

Notable Performances…

“We had four Under-16s starting today which is a big positive. We finished with five Under-16s on the pitch with Kyle (Fanning) coming on for his first game in the Under-18s and it’s all about that transitional period and getting the boys ready for next season.

“I thought Billy (Leach) had a good training week and it was a good way to cap off that week with a goal, albeit a fortunate one, and an assist. You’ve got to be in them areas to get that little bit of luck and that’s what Billy did. He was a constant threat to Swansea’s full-back and hopefully Billy can take this good form into next week against Ipswich Town and into next season.”

Ipswich Town Preview…

“At the minute, the squad is stretched very thin. All the second-year Under-18s are playing for the Under-23s, which is great experience for them and we’re trying to get a handful of Under-16s ready to travel to Ipswich, so it’ll depend on what squad we’ll have. Whatever squad we take away to Ipswich, we expect the boys to do the shirt proud.”
