Slater Delighted With Goal & Win

29 October 2020

Regan Slater expressed his delight after Hull City came from behind to see off Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night.

The midfielder was part of a trio of substitutes to score for the Tigers in a second-half turnaround, and the 21-year-old was thrilled to get off the mark in black and amber.

“I’m delighted and I’m sure the other two lads are as well,” said Slater. “The changing room afterwards was delighted with the three points, especially after coming from behind.

“The gaffer told me as I was coming on to start making the box, which is obviously where mine and Keano’s (Keane Lewis-Potter) goal came from, so we listened to his advice and thankfully it paid off.

“The space was there to attack in the box. I saw that the gaps were definitely there to get into and they weren’t really being tracked so it was just a case of ‘keep doing it’ and hopefully one will fall to me, which it did.

“I think we looked solid. We got off to a bit of a sloppy start but we looked solid after that. In the first half, when we got into the final third, it just didn’t seem to be going our way but later on in the game we managed to solve that.

“There’s games always coming so we couldn’t dwell on the result at the weekend. We moved on pretty quickly with a great reaction on Tuesday night.

“Obviously I’d love to get more minutes but the gaffer will pick whatever team he wants to pick.

“There’s still plenty of games to come and we’re looking forward to it. We’re right up there and we just need to keep on going now and we’ll look ahead to the next one.”
