Hakeeb Adelakun admitted he was ‘buzzing’ after his goal maintained Hull City’s perfect start to the Sky Bet League One season.
Adelakun’s tenth-minute winner against Plymouth Argyle at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday made it four wins from four for the Tigers, who are also yet to concede a league goal this campaign, and the man on loan from Bristol City was pleased with his personal contribution.
“The boys dug in deep to get the win. We had to battle through at times but we stuck at it to get the three points,” said Adelakun.
“I was buzzing to get the goal. We managed to get Keano through down the left and as soon as I saw that I just tried to get myself in at the back post. It was a good cross, I made good contact and it’s found the far corner. There was a decision to make in terms of going with the head or the foot because of the height the ball was at, but the key was making good contact and I put it back towards where it had come from.
“We created loads of opportunities in that first half and we should have made more of them which is something that we’ll have to work on, but we did our work at the other end to keep another clean sheet which is a big thing.”
The win, goal and performance continued a positive start to life with the Tigers for Adelakun and he has been pleased to repay the faith shown in him by Head Coach Grant McCann in his first couple of appearances.
“The gaffer has shown faith in me to put me straight into the team for the last couple of games and I’m glad that I’ve been able to repay him with an assist last week and a goal this week,” added the 24-year-old.
“I’ve been given a great opportunity here and I want to grab it with both hands. I’ve managed to get off to a good start but I have to keep it going."
