McCann Pleased to be Sharing the Goals

27 November 2020

Grant McCann is pleased to see the goals being shared around the team.

Hull City are the joint second highest scorers in League One with 24 goals and are the only side in the division to have netted in every league game.

The Tigers have plundered a further 10 goals in the cups, with 11 different players finding the scoresheet in all competitions.

Mallik Wilks leads the way with eight, Keane Lewis-Potter and Josh Magennis have six apiece and James Scott has three, with four players on two and three on one.

“It’s pleasing to see many different players scoring goals and many different players taking opportunities,” said McCann.

“We’ve got players in the front end of the pitch who can play in different positions all across there.

“The forward players are all scoring goals and it’s nice to see all the players at the top end of the pitch contributing.”

Three forward players netted in the midweek win at Ipswich and the Tigers are now the top away scorers in England's top four divisions with 18.

Wilks, Magennis and Tom Eaves were the men on target at Portman Road – and McCann hailed three good finishes.

“Mallik has scored quite a lot of them goals over the last two or three years, that low back lift into the bottom corner,” he commented.

“It’s something he’s really good at, that position and that low shot into that corner.

“It was nice to see Josh Magennis score again. He got two at MK Dons and was in a good position between the posts.

"As all good strikers will tell you, that’s a position you want to be taking up. It was a good touch, a good finish.

“I was really pleased to see Eavesy come on and score. He’s had chances every time he’s played. He shot early, low and it was a really good finish to seal the victory.

“He’s a bit frustrated he’s not in the team at this present time but the form of others is dictating in terms of that. He can score goals at this level and has done over previous years.”
