Hull City U18’s 4-3 Bristol City U18’s: Report

8 November 2020

Hull City U18’s won a seven goal thriller at Bishop Burton College, defeating Bristol City U18’s 4-3. McCauley Power, Will Jarvis, Oliver Green and Luke Rees scored the goals for the Tigers, as they secured all three points in the Professional Development League.

John Anderson and Matt Hare made five changes to the starting eleven that defeated Crewe Alexandra 2-0 in The FA Youth Cup last time out. Billy Leach, Harry Wallis, McCauley Snelgrove, Rees and Jarvis all came into the team for Henry Curtis, Louis Beckett, Rio Dyer, Harvey Carew and Josh Hinds respectively.

The visitors took the lead on nine minutes, after Jarvis gave away a penalty. Alex Scott stepped up and despite seeing his spot-kick saved by Harry Fisk, he was quickest to react to head the rebound into the empty net. Fisk then had to be alert to deny Tommy Backwell twice in as many minutes as Bristol pushed for a second.

However, the Tigers scored their equaliser on the 19th minute. After good link-up play between Snelgrove and Jarvis on the right wing, the latter picked out the run of Power and the midfielder drilled his first-timed effort into the bottom corner. The Tigers grew in confidence as Snelgrove saw his shot blocked by Omar Taylor Clarke, before Jarvis curled his effort wide of the post.

At the other end, Fisk had to produce a stunning save to deny Prince Henry, while Harry Lovick tested James Walker in the Bristol goal. Henry had the last chance of the half as he beat the offside trap, but the Bristol striker dragged his shot wide across goal.

In the second half, the Tigers made a double substitution and Jake Leake made an immediate impact. After just three minutes since coming on, Leake played through Jarvis with a long pass and Jarvis chipped the onrushing Walker to give the Tigers the lead. Jarvis nearly secured his brace moments later, but his effort was well saved by Walker.

Against the run of the play, Bristol scored an equaliser as Backwell turned the last defender, before rifling his low shot into the bottom corner. It was end-to-end action as the Tigers thought they had scored through Alfie Taylor, but the linesman adjudged the ball to not have fully crossed the line. However, the Tigers did score their third, as Rees headed down a long free-kick for Green to rifle in from close-range.

Two minutes later and the Tigers scored another as Snelgrove played through Rees, who got to the loose ball before Walker to poke home the Tigers’ fourth. In stoppage-time, Bristol did get a consolation from the penalty spot through Dylan Kadji, but the Tigers held on to secure all three points.
