Hull City U23 defender Andy Smith says the game against Barnsley was frustrating after suffering a 1-0 defeat.
Cameron Thompson’s 80th minute penalty condemned the Tigers to defeat in their final game of 2020.
“It was a frustrating game,” said Smith.
“At times we were being put under by Barnsley and the ball was being turned over quite a lot, but to our credit we did defend quite well for the majority of the game I thought, but it was just creating them final chances which let us down.
“Barnsley are up there near the top this season like us and the way that the game was going to be won was through either a bit of quality or a mistake and it was a shame to have given a penalty away, especially near the end of the game, but we’ll learn from it.
“I think the team as a whole wanted to defend well and keep the clean sheet mentality we have while at the other end of the pitch, wanting to score as many goals as possible and ultimately win football matches, but obviously it wasn’t meant to be this time, but we’ll work hard when we’re back from the Christmas break and we’ll be ready for the next game.”
