McCann frustrated after Pompey defeat

18 December 2020

Grant McCann was left frustrated after Hull City’s 2-0 home defeat by Portsmouth.

Own goals from Jacob Greaves and Josh Magennis inflicted a third successive defeat on the Tigers, who were replaced at the top of League One by Pompey.

“I don’t think there was anything in the game,” said McCann.

“Defensively, we were good, apart from the two set-plays we scored own goals from.

“In an attacking sense, as a team, I think we put in well over 25 crosses in the game and didn’t seem to get on the end of any.

“When we did, Josh (Magennis) hit the crossbar. Pompey are defensively one of the strongest teams in the league.

“I thought we got into some really good areas but we didn’t make it count. Ultimately, it’s cost us.

“We’re frustrated with the first goal – we thought maybe it was a foul on Jacob Greaves. His eye is cut open. Anywhere else on the pitch, I think he gives a free-kick.

“The second one, we didn’t defend well enough and it ends up in the net by one of our players.”
