Hare on U18’s Crewe Defeat

22 December 2020

Hull City U18 Joint Manager Matt Hare has said the side will be aiming to make improvements in 2021, after a 6-1 home defeat against Crewe Alexandra.

Despite McCauley Snelgrove scoring for the Tigers, the U18’s ended 2020 in defeat at Bishop Burton College.

Reaction on defeat…

“I thought first half there wasn’t that much between the two teams. We didn’t press the way we wanted to press in the first half and we wanted to be a lot more aggressive when they had the ball in their half, so we spoke to the boys about doing that at half-time. However in the second half, we just took a step backwards instead of taking two step forwards and it was quite disappointing really.

“There’s only one way we can go now and we’ve got to be better. We haven’t conceded a lot of goals in one game during this season, so it’s hopefully a little bit of a one off for the lads, but it’s definitely something we’ve got to improve upon and something that we definitely don’t want to revisit in the remaining fixtures of the season.”

Summary of 2020…

“To be fair, the league has been extremely competitive so far. Every team can beat each other and that’s why it’s such a tight league. I think the boys to be fair to them in the first half of the season, apart from the last two fixtures, have performed really well and we have been pleased with their application in the games and how they’ve performed in the league overall. The last two games against Coventry and Crewe have been disappointing and it’s important that we come back after Christmas and we rediscover the form we had before we went away and had the coronavirus shutdown.”

2021 Targets…

We’ve got to aim and get better. When we come back after Christmas, we need to take another step forward and get the second year scholars ready hopefully for U23’s football, the one’s that are fortunate to do so, so we definitely can’t rest on a positive first half of the season; we need to move forward.”
