Hull City 0-4 Leicester City

20 July 2022

Hull City suffered defeat against a strong Leicester City outfit, losing 4-0 at the MKM Stadium.

Patson Daka opened the scoring in the first half, before second-half finishes from Harvey Barnes, Wesley Fofana and James Maddison saw the Foxes lift the inaugural Corendon Cup.

Shota Arveladze gave a first home outing for new signings Tobias Figueiredo, Jean Michaël Seri, Ozan Tufan and Óscar Estupiñán. Matt Ingram started in-between the posts while Lewie Coyle captained the side, with the new white away strip making it’s debut in front of 12,993 fans.

Chances were a premium in the first half as Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen claimed a handful of dangerous crosses, before Ozan Tufan curled a free-kick chance from distance wide.

On the 29th minute, Leicester City opened the scoring. Daka dispossessed Seri on the edge of the Tigers’ penalty area before rifling a left-footed strike into the far corner past the dive of Ingram.

In the second half, the Foxes made 10 substitutions and scored two quickfire goals to reinforce their lead. First, after a good driving run from Boubakary Soumaré, Barnes cut inside from the left wing before seeing his right-footed strike beat Ingram at his near post, with the aid of a wicked deflection off Jacob Greaves.

Four minutes later and Leicester had their third as Fofana headed home Maddison’s whipped cross. Ingram was then called into action as he parried away Soumaré’s drive, while at the other end, a vital challenge by Fofana denied a great surging run from Allahyar Sayyadmanesh.

After the hour mark, chances became a premium again, with Jamie Vardy coming closest as the forward volleyed over from Marc Albrighton’s precise cross-field pass.

With six minutes left to play, Leicester City added a fourth. After an initial great turn by the midfielder, Maddison drove into the box before placing his right-footed effort into the bottom corner.
